Teas Included : Nilgiri Green Twirl, Nilgiri Frosted Noir, Nilgiri Green Needle, Nilgiri Breakfast Tea
This month, we invite you to experience the exquisite winter teas of Nilgiri, hand-harvested in February 2025 at an elevation of 6,500 feet in South India. During winter, temperatures drop below freezing at night, creating the ideal conditions for frosted teas—a rare and extraordinary phenomenon that occurs when the tea plants are exposed to frost, altering their chemistry and enhancing their complexity. This natural stress results in a deeper, more layered flavor profile with a refined balance of briskness, sweetness, and lingering aromatics. These high-quality teas unfold in delicate layers, offering a remarkable depth that evolves with every sip.
Made from the CR6017 cultivar, Nilgiri Green Twirl is one of our absolute favorite green teas from India, showcasing delicate complexity and balance. It has a beautifully layered richness with a deep umami quality, balanced by a subtle sweetness and citrusy brightness. The tea unfolds with notes of nutty mung bean, fresh-cut grass, spinach, and seaweed, intertwined with the warmth of toasted soba. A gentle bitterness enhances the profile, leading to a refreshing finish with hints of lemon peel and grapefruit.

Also made from the CR6017 cultivar, this signature Nilgiri Frosted Noir, is a black that that is beloved for its distinct character. Unlike Assam or Darjeeling black teas, Nilgiri frosted teas have their own unique charm, offering an elegant yet complex profile with a delicate briskness. The tea has an evocative depth, with aromas of forest air and wintergreen oil, layered with bright citrus notes of lemon peel and the grounding smokiness of charred wood. The frost imparts a smooth, almost creamy texture, making it an unforgettable black tea experience.

Crafted from the B/5/63 cultivar—an Assamica and Sinensis hybrid—this tea is known for its long, elegant leaves and its resemblance to Chinese Longjing. The leaves are meticulously hand-plucked, steamed to halt oxidation, flattened, and then carefully dried. The result is a tea with a juicy and rich mouthfeel, revealing layers of vegetal depth. Notes of spinach and artichoke emerge first, followed by the salinity of seaweed and the uplifting brightness of lemon balm and lemon peel. The combination of the cultivar’s genetics and Nilgiri’s unique terroir makes this a standout green tea.
