Tea Type

Whole leaf white tea, buds only

Our silver needle white tea from Meghalaya is so sublime, an absolute treasure and is definitely for those who enjoy the finer things in life. The tea is delicate, has a rich mouthfeel with complex floral, herbaceous, honey and buttery notes.

Crafted at a boutique tea garden situated on the Umiam lake in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, our Limited Edition Silver Needle is extremely rare and unique. It is composed of the most tender and youngest tea buds. While other teas go through an oxidation process this tea is very natural. The tender buds are hand plucked and then withered and sundried at the same time. A very small lot of silver needle tea is made every year in the winter and sometimes early spring, making this a very special, micro ghani batch.

Dry leaves

Smooth, velvety, greenish-gray silvery buds with delicate white fine hairs. Exquisite floral and herbaceous aromas.

Wet leaves

Greenish-brown buds with a lovely floral aroma of jasmine, wild flowers and honeysuckle, mixed with herbaceous, honey and notes.

Tea liquor

Transparent with a pale yellow color and sweet floral and herbaceous aromas. The tea has a rich mouthfeel, is light bodied, with a silky texture and minimal astringency. The tea has a sweet taste with some salt and umami notes. The aromas and flavors are extremely delicate but complex. There are a burst of floral notes of jasmine, wildflowers and honeysuckle intermingled with sweet honey and holy basil. Later infusions also have undertones of macadamia nuts, butter and sweet cream. Some notes of sweet hay and wheat grass that are also appreciated.

Meghalaya

Origin

Where your tea comes from

This tea was plucked by a small team of 13 pluckers working at a boutique tea garden Meghalaya. A hidden gem, located in the picturesque East Khasi Hills, on the banks of the Umiam -Lake, the tea garden specializes in small batches (ghani batches) of tea, as it pays meticulous attention to the harvesting and processing aspects, so as to craft the most unique and magnificent teas of unparalleled quality. Meghalaya is extremely picturesque and has great biodiversity with the garden hidden amongst otherwise untouched rainforest. Meghalaya lies between Darjeeling and Assam and is known as the ‘Abode of Clouds.’ Lush jungles, golden-green paddy fields, windswept highlands, and verdant valleys, Meghalaya is a breathtaking sight.

Silver Needle

An excellent tea with calming affects. Great for an early afternoon session. Brews perfectly in a gaiwan and overall provides a soothing experience.
