Loose leaf black tea
Arunachal Pradesh Golden Dawn is a whole leaf black tea made by Junmoni Baido and Omak Apang of Donyi Polo Tea Estate, crafted in the eastern Himalayas where tea grows slowly under forest canopies and misty skies. This is a delicate black tea with a refined character, opening with soft cocoa and honeyed forest notes, followed by a gentle biscuit sweetness. Though a black tea, it drinks light and elegant.
During our visit to Arunachal Pradesh, we had the opportunity to meet Junmoni Baido, the lead tea artisan working in close partnership with Donyi Polo’s founder Omak Apang. Baido, meaning big sister, is a title she truly lives up to. Junmoni began her journey as a tea plucker and over time grew into a skilled tea artisan. Today, she leads a collective of ten women, all trained in careful plucking and artisanal tea making.
This tea is built on a model of true collaboration. Junmoni and her group work directly with Donyi Polo, and profits from the tea are shared, ensuring that the women shaping this harvest benefit meaningfully from their work. Golden Dawn is not only a beautiful expression of Arunachal’s terroir, but also a reflection of leadership, community, and respect for the hands that make the tea.
High-Moderate
To prepare an exquisite cup of tea use filtered water.
Number of infusions per 2.5 g serving: 3

2.5 gms of tea (use a digital scale)

120-150 ml (4-5 fl-oz) or 1/2 - 2/3rd cup of water at 90°C - 95°C (or 190°F - 195°F)

This tea works great for the gongfu method of steeping as it helps coax out all the subtle flavors.

We recommend 6 gm of tea

100 ml water (approximate 10-20 ml of water per 1 gm of tea) at 85°C - 90°C (or 185°F - 195°F).
Origin
Nestled in the Siang River Valley by the eastern Himalayan foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, Donyi Polo Tea Estate is an artisan tea estate rooted in indigenous philosophy that honors nature, community, and balance. Founded by Omak Apang and his mother, the estate works closely with local small growers and women tea artisans, producing small batch whole leaf teas with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, transparency, and equitable profit sharing.
